Fat Reduction; CoolSculpting vs. Vanquish

Posted on January 12, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

CoolSculpting vs. VanquishAfter all the holiday consumption, January often finds people consumed with losing some of the extra fat they picked up from November to January. It is not surprising that January through March are a very busy times in our office for non-surgical fat reduction techniques Vanquish and CoolSculpting. But what, exactly, is the difference between the two procedures?

CoolSculpting is an FDA cleared fat reduction technique that literally freezes a specified area of fat. It is an office procedure that takes about one hour per area (flanks would be considered two areas); so many people have two-hour sessions per treatment. CoolSculpting requires no anesthesia….

Vacation Breasts (InstaBreast)

Posted on December 4, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

71187663_201-300x212For those who want to experience what it would be like to have fuller breasts but without committing to a breast augmentation, a new technique developed by New York plastic surgeon, Dr. Norman Rowe offers patients a chance to experience “vacation breasts” but only for about 24 hours with saline breast injections.

The technique basically takes about 20 minutes to perform. The injection site, at the edge of each nipple is anesthetized, and about a half liter of saline solution (salt water) is injected into each breast and, voila- instant breasts. The body then absorbs the salt water naturally within about 24 hours.

According to Dr. Rowe, who has performed many of…

Ideal Breast Implant

Posted on November 19, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

GettyImages_87884438It came as great news yesterday that the FDA approved Valeant Pharmaceuticals, Ideal Breast Implant for use in the U.S.

Back at our Virgin Islands Workshop in 2010, a friend and plastic surgery colleague, Dr. Robert Hamas, introduced plastic surgeons at our meeting to a prototype for an implant he had developed. The new implant, which he called the Ideal Implant®, combined the best of silicone gel and saline implants.

Dr. Hamas felt that many women liked the natural result of the silicone gel implants, but preferred the safety of a saline implant should the implant leak or rupture. Regular MRI scans are typically the only way women can detect a leak…

Facial Fat Grafting following Liposuction

Posted on November 11, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock_100121513For those who have a little extra fat to spare, which includes just about all of us, the option of having liposuction and using some of the excess fat for facial fat grafting or augmentation can make perfect sense for the right candidate.

Fat grafting is basically a fat transfer procedure that removes fat from one area, often the abdomen, through liposuction. The fat is then processed, and reinjected to the face as a natural filler for wrinkles and volumizer to the face thereby creating a more youthful appearance.

There are some other benefits of fat grafting over other injectables or facial fillers.Since the fat is from your own body, there are…

Best Time for a Facelift

Posted on October 29, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock18046165.jpg_595Deciding the best time for a facelift is a personal decision and is not determined by age alone. Once skin has begun to show signs of deepening wrinkles, loosening or jowling, is the time many patients opt for surgical solutions. This can occur anywhere from the 40’s through 70’s. Today, younger men and women than ever are opting for facial plastic surgery or a MACS lift, so that they enjoy longer lasting results. There are several reasons why this may be desirable.

It has been shown that patients with more skin elasticity tend to have better and longer lasting results. Additionally, once skin has lost its elasticity, more skin needs to…

Vanquish Non-Surgical Fat Reduction

Posted on September 17, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

71187630_20-1We are happy to announce a newcomer in the non-surgical fat reduction arena; Vanquish by BTL Aesthetics. Unlike CoolSculpting, which reduces a very specific area of fat by freezing,  Vanquish utilizes multi-focused radio frequency technology to heat and reduce fat in a broader treatment area.  Vanquish is able to target fat beneath the skin and heat  it to 120 degrees while maintaining a temperature of 101 degrees on the surface of the skin.  FDA cleared for deep tissue heating, a known form of fat reduction, Vanquish destroys the fat cells which are later eliminated naturally through the body’s own metabolic process.

While not a replacement for weight loss, diet or exercise,…

Laser Facelift

Posted on August 23, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock_68283949The idea of a Laser FaceLift is a bit of a mystery to many.  It sounds rather futuristic, and actually, it is one of the newest techniques in achieving facial rejuvenation, but it is not for everyone.

We have recently acquired the Precision TX laser for facial rejuvenation. This system is very much like our Cellulaze treatment that treats cellulite with a very small laser fiber that is side-firing and works close to the surface of the skin to break up the septae or bands that hold fat in place.  In the case of facial rejuvenation, very small (think pencil lead small) incisions are…

Botched Plastic Surgery

Posted on July 25, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

Botched imageBotched, a new reality TV show on the EChannel at ten on Sunday night, features two Beverly Hills plastic surgeons, Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif who spend the hour attempting to repair botched plastic surgery performed  by less than qualified surgeons.

Strangely fascinating, the show has a wide assortment of individuals who, for whatever reason, have ended up with bad results from previous surgeries. From upside down implants to guys who have spent money attempting to look like Madonna or Justin Bieber, it seems the stranger the better.

Although the doctors do a good job repairing some of the damage done by unqualified surgeons, the truth is, repairing botched…

Excessive Sweating Solutions

Posted on July 2, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock_97358942For those who suffer from excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, there are now some real solutions to the problem. Summer months can be particularly miserable for these individuals when temperatures heat up and even short -sleeved shirts or dresses are not enough to keep the problem from becoming an embarrassment.

There are many new antiperspirants on the market that promise relief from excessive sweating, but for those who truly have hyperhidrosis, no amount of deodorant offers an effective long-term solution.

Botox injections are one solution that many have found helpful the last few years. This FDA cleared use of Botox requires a series of injections in…
