Scarless Breast Augmentation Surgery

Posted on October 13, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

Breast Procedures Grand Rapids, MIMany women who consider breast augmentation worry about scarring or wonder if there is a “scarless” breast augmentation. Since all surgery involves cutting the skin, scars are an inevitable by product. When it comes to breast augmentation, many women who come to my practice are interested in having no scar whatsoever on their breasts. This is something we can accomplish.

Many years ago I learned the transaxillary approach to breast augmentation whereby a very small incision is made underneath the armpit, a fairly inconspicuous spot from an aesthetic standpoint, and the implant is inserted. This area also tends to heal very quickly and…

Vacation Breasts (InstaBreast)

Posted on December 4, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

71187663_201-300x212For those who want to experience what it would be like to have fuller breasts but without committing to a breast augmentation, a new technique developed by New York plastic surgeon, Dr. Norman Rowe offers patients a chance to experience “vacation breasts” but only for about 24 hours with saline breast injections.

The technique basically takes about 20 minutes to perform. The injection site, at the edge of each nipple is anesthetized, and about a half liter of saline solution (salt water) is injected into each breast and, voila- instant breasts. The body then absorbs the salt water naturally within about 24 hours.

According to Dr. Rowe, who has performed many of…

Ideal Breast Implant

Posted on November 19, 2014 by Dr. Ringler

GettyImages_87884438It came as great news yesterday that the FDA approved Valeant Pharmaceuticals, Ideal Breast Implant for use in the U.S.

Back at our Virgin Islands Workshop in 2010, a friend and plastic surgery colleague, Dr. Robert Hamas, introduced plastic surgeons at our meeting to a prototype for an implant he had developed. The new implant, which he called the Ideal Implant®, combined the best of silicone gel and saline implants.

Dr. Hamas felt that many women liked the natural result of the silicone gel implants, but preferred the safety of a saline implant should the implant leak or rupture. Regular MRI scans are typically the only way women can detect a leak…

Reasons for Seeking Breast Surgery

Posted on July 29, 2013 by Dr. Ringler

For those who are comfortable with their breasts, there can be a bit of mystery or misunderstanding as to what prompts women to seek out plastic surgery of the breast. Rarely do women seek out breast surgery because they want very large, or overly conspicuous breasts. Most women are seeking a natural appearance that results in better balance for their figure.

As is often the case in nature, there is frequently a case of too much or too little in terms of breast endowment. For many women seeking breast implants, there have been issues with being flat chested since adolescence. Often these women are…

Discount Plastic Surgery

Posted on June 4, 2013 by Dr. Ringler

If you’ve ever been tempted to respond to one of those “two breast implants for the price of one” type promotions or travel vacations offering plastic surgery for less, be careful. It is a very rare reputable, board certified plastic surgeon who will offer surgical procedures at a discount to just anyone responding to an ad in the paper or magazine. This is truly a case of “buyer beware” when you see such types of promotions.

What is the problem with wanting to save a little money on a cosmetic surgery procedure? First of all, not everyone seeing an ad is a good surgical candidate. Only after a complete…

Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

Posted on February 4, 2013 by Dr. Ringler

New mothers are often so thrilled with their new baby, that it is often not until a year or two post-partum that women begin to feel that the body that they assumed would “bounce back” following the baby, has not done so. The process of gaining and losing weight as one does during a pregnancy, breast- feeding resulting in a loss of breast volume, separation of the stomach muscle (diastasis) and loose skin, are often complaints that we hear from women who are seeking a mommy makeover. These issues can occur regardless of whether the woman has gotten back to her pre-pregnancy weight and are ones that are not…

Maintaining Youthful Looking Breasts

Posted on September 30, 2012 by Dr. Ringler

If you’re concerned about keeping your breasts more youthful looking but aren’t sure if there is much you can do to control how your breasts age, a new study of identical twins may provide some clues. A controlled study of identical twins by Dr. Hooman T. Soltanian from the University Hospital Case Medical Center in Cleveland indicates that factors such as; breastfeeding, moisturizing, and hormone- replacement therapy after menopause significantly decreased the perceived aging of the breasts. Factors that negatively impacted the appearance of the breasts and accelerated the appearance of aging in breasts included; cigarette smoking, higher BMI, alcohol consumption, multiple pregnancies, and larger breasts and cup sizes….

Breast Augmentation May Improve Quality of Life

Posted on July 12, 2012 by Dr. Ringler

A recent study published in the July issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), indicates that women who have had breast augmentation surgery report substantial improvement in several areas of quality of life.

The study, headed by Dr. Colleen McCarthy of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York developed and evaluated a questionnaire, called the
BREAST-Q, ®, which looked at health related quality of life issues following breast implant surgery..

The study examined the satisfaction with the breasts following surgery, psychosocial, sexual and physical well-being and satisfaction with the care that they received. The study involved 41 women who answered the questionnaire six months prior to breast augmentation surgery…

Summer Breast Lift

Posted on June 16, 2012 by Dr. Ringler

Summer and swimsuit season is the time many women make a decision to do something about breasts that have begun to sag or lose their shape. Fluctuations in weight, pregnancy, the effects of gravity and aging can all impact breast tissue and result in sagging breasts. The delicate elastin in the breasts begins to stretch or sag and does not regain its former shape without surgery. Fortunately, a breast lift can help to reposition breasts that have begun to sag and restore a fuller, more youthful appearance to the breasts.

Women who opt for a breast lift often combine this out-patient procedure with a breast reduction

Transaxillary Breast Augmentation

Posted on May 23, 2012 by Dr. Ringler

One of the biggest concerns of women in my practice undergoing breast augmentation surgery, besides safety and choosing the best size and type of implant, is whether or not they will have a scar on their breast following the procedure, and if so, how large of a scar.

For many years I have been specializing in a transaxillary approach to breast augmentation which leaves no scar on the breast. A very small incision is made beneath the arm near the armpit through which the implant is inserted, resulting in a very small, well-concealed scar. Typically, within several months following surgery, the scar is no longer visible. This “scarless”…
