The battle of the bulge is nothing new, and even those guys who work out rigorously and watch their diet can be frustrated by those love handles or tummy bulge that remains despite our best efforts.
A couple of years ago the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery became the first plastic surgery office in Michigan to introduce Coolsculpting as a body contouring option to our patients who wanted to treat those stubborn areas without the downtime of surgery.
Coolsculpting utilizes Cryolipolysis (fat freezing), which was developed after researchers fully understood what happens when humans get frostbite: fat cells freeze before skin freezes. Cryolipolysis works like frostbite; it freezes fat, leaving the overlying skin intact. A section of your skin is inserted into the Coolsculpting paddles, for about an hour, resulting in the disappearance of some fat cells, typically about 20% of those being treated through the device. The treatment only feels cold for about the first 3 minutes. After that, most people are quite comfortable with the treatment and no longer feel the cold sensation. After an hour, the area is gently massaged as it returns to room temperature. Other than some redness, there are typically few side-effects and most people go right back to their daily activities.
We are seeing a real increase of men in our practice who enjoy watching a Netflix movie or want to work on their laptop while freezing off those stubborn fat cells. The treatment device remains in place for about an hour at a time, and many men find that by booking multiple sessions of Coolsculpting, they are achieving very satisfying results. Results take about 3-4 months to be fully realized.
Body contouring by liposuction techniques such as, SmartLipo, Body-Jet or SAFELipo achieve results more quickly and completely, but for those guys who prefer a non-surgical approach, Coolsculpting provides a very safe, effective alternative – particularly for those who book multiple sessions of Coolsculpting.
