Everyone wants beautiful lips that are full, natural looking, and free from lip lines. Traditionally, wrinkles around the mouth as a result of smoking, puckering and just plain living, have been one of the more difficult areas for plastic surgeons to treat successfully. These lines are not typically corrected with a facelift or any other type of surgery.
Fortunately, there are now some new tools that we have to help treat those fine lines around the mouth, the deeper lines between the nose and corners of the mouth, and enhance the lips without the awful puffed up Hollywood lips that most women and men abhor.
For the lines between the corners of the nose and mouth, also known as marionette lines, we have good success with Juvederm, Belotero and Restylane. These hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers do a nice job of softly filling in those creases for about 4-12 months.
The fine lines or puckers around the mouth are now being treated successfully in our practice with a combination of either Restylane Silk and/or Exilis Elite RF treatment. The Restylane Silk helps to plump up and soften the lines. It is also an injectable hyaluronic acid-based product. It can also add slight volume to the lips for a more youthful appearance. Exilis Elite uses radiofrequency technology to help the skin boost its own collagen production and soften lip lines. Exilis Elite is an office procedure performed by our RN that typically is completed within 30-45 minutes depending on the patient, and it requires several sessions.
