Over the years, technology has greatly improved the durability and design of breast implants. FDA-approved breast implants are even known to last several decades. Yet it is still important to remember that no implant is considered a lifetime device, and that all implants should be regularly monitored by a plastic surgeon. At the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, board-certified Dr. Steven Ringler is dedicated to helping his patients maintain the health of their breast implants following breast augmentation surgery in Grand Rapids.
Why Follow-Up After Breast Augmentation Surgery in Grand Rapids?
There are a number of reasons why it is essential to visit with your plastic surgeon.
To Catch the Problem Early: Post-operative complications can escalate quickly, and it’s always best to catch any problems as soon as possible. Dr. Ringler has more than 35 years of experience in the plastic surgery industry, and knows what to look for if complications do arise.
To Utilize Your Warranty: Many warranties expire, leaving women to pay for revision or replacement costs on their own. Do you know the terms of the warranty on your breast implants? Dr. Ringler can help you identify if you have a significant problem that needs correcting, such as capsular contracture or a ruptured breast implant, that could be covered under your warranty.
To Improve Look, Shape, and Feel: Complications are not the only reason to replace your breast implants. Technology has brought about several new breast implant options that cater to a variety of preferences. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your breast implants, you can change that! Dr. Ringler will take the time to address your concerns and help you determine the best breast implant for your individual needs and body. He offers all types of breast implants, including the latest IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants. Learn more about IDEAL IMPLANTS here. In addition, recently, Dr. RIngler has been performing breast explant surgery for those who have made the decision to have their textured breast implants removed and replaced by a smooth breast implant such as the IDEAL IMPLANT.
Detecting a Ruptured Breast Implant
Another major reason to follow-up with a plastic surgeon after breast augmentation surgery in Grand Rapids is to ensure that you do not have a ruptured breast implant. Women with silicone gel implants can experience a “silent rupture”, which occurs when a silicone gel implant develops a hole or tear that allows the sticky silicone gel to leak out and get trapped in the surrounding tissues of a woman’s body without her knowledge. To help detect a “silent rupture”, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends all women with silicone gel implants receive an MRI scan every two to three years.
