The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery statistics for 2014 indicate that more men than ever are opting for plastic surgery. This certainly has been the case for our practice at the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery.
Over the past five years, the increase in male cosmetic procedures has risen by 43% nationally, with blepharoplasty, male breast reduction and facelift being the most popular surgical procedures. For non-surgical procedures, Botox, dermal fillers, non-surgical skin tightening and Intense Pulsed Light are the most popular.
At our practice, these same trends apply, although non-surgical fat reduction procedures like CoolSculpting and Vanquish are also extremely popular with men. Non-invasive skin tightening treatments like, Ultherapy and Exilis Elite are also popular with men. Whether due time constraints from a job, or just preference, coming into the office for an hour or less for their treatments seems to fit for most men.
We have also noticed a trend that men who accompany their spouse or girlfriend for a visit to our office, often end up scheduling a consultation for themselves. Whether it is a desire to keep up with their wife’s updated look, or seeing how relatively easy many procedures are today, many men seem to be inspired.
The atmosphere of privacy and spa-like environment at the office also seem to make men feel more comfortable, not to mention the homemade chocolate chip cookies! Most men seem to feel most comfortable in an environment that is more gender neutral and not overly feminine.
As men continue to stay in the work force for longer periods of time, and, like many women, want their appearance on the outside to match how young they feel on the inside, I expect the trend of more men than ever opting for plastic surgery to continue.
