A common complaint of men and women of all ages is a double-chin or unwanted excess fat in the submental area. Fat beneath the chin can be aging and can make you look heavier than you actually are. What makes it more frustrating, is that even those who are in great shape otherwise, can be predisposed genetically to the unwanted double chin, which is typically not helped by diet or any type of exercise. For others, weight gain and aging tend to make the problem of excess chin fat more noticeable.
Enter the latest FDA approved, non-surgical solution for fat reduction by Allergan, known as Kybella. The goal of Kybella is to reduce the double chin and restore more balance to the face for a more youthful appearance. Kybella is administered through a series of injections beneath the chin and takes about 20-30 minutes per session to be administered. The specific amount of Kybella used and number of injections will be determined by your physician or nurse based on your goals. Typically, Kybella requires 2-4 sessions scheduled one month apart to realize the full results. Sometimes up to 6 sessions are required. Kybella contains a naturally occurring molecule which eats away at the fat and is later absorbed and released naturally by the body. Many patients experience some bruising, redness, and swelling in the area immediately following their treatment.
Kybella joins our other non-surgical solutions for fat reduction in the submental area, including Ultherapy, Cool-Mini, and Exilis Elite. It has been popular for those who do not want the downtime associated with a surgical solution for reducing the chin and neck such as SmartLipo or PrecisionTX. For the right candidate, Kybella can provide a long-term solution to creating an improved facial contour by reducing the submental fat. The fat cells reduced through Kybella are permanently destroyed, so that once the desired level of improvement is achieved through injections, no further treatment is required.
