Now available at the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, the Serene® Structured Breast Implant combines natural feel with the safety of only saline inside for peace of mind.
A Comprehensive, Personalized Approach
Serene Structured Breast Implants Grand Rapids MI
The Serene implant has undergone 10 years of development and refinement, including contributions of clinical expertise from many plastic surgeons. The result is the FDA-approved Serene implant, with the natural feel that women want, but without any silicone gel.
The Serene implant has a series of implant shells nested together and two separate chambers that hold the saline. This simple, yet innovative, internal structure is designed to control movement of the saline and support the implant edges to reduce folding and wrinkling. In addition, the edges have been lowered to better fit the natural curve of the chest wall. This unique design allows women to have the best of both worlds with their implant – a natural look and feel, but the ability to just look in a mirror and know the implant is intact.
Patient Testimonials
What is the Serene implant and what makes it different?
The Serene implant® is a structured saline-filled breast implant with an innovative patented-design that gives it a natural feel without silicone gel. The Serene implant has a revolutionary new technology that offers women the look and feel of a silicone gel implant, but with the safety of only saline inside. This technology eliminates the concern women have with silicone gel implants: that of ruptures that are silent and require an MRI scan for detection. With the Serene implant, a woman can simply look in the mirror each day and have the confidence of knowing her implants are intact.
Who is the Serene implant candidate?
Any woman who wants an implant with a natural feel, but does not want silicone gel in her body, may chose the Serene implant. This implant is for the many women who would be concerned about the high 10-year rate of undetected, silent ruptures of silicone gel implants inside their body, and the inconvenience of the FDA-recommended MRI scans every 2 years to detect ruptures.

A Comprehensive, Personalized Approach
Is the Serene implant round or tear-drop shaped? The Serene implant has a unique internal structure that minimizes the “bouncing,” “scalloping” and “wrinkling”. The internal structure consists of a series of implant shells nested together and two separate chambers that hold saline.
This simple, yet innovative, internal structure is designed to control movement of the saline and support the implant edges to reduce wrinkling. In addition, the edges have been lowered to better fit the natural curve of the chest wall. When held upright, the internal structure supports the upper portion of the implant to prevent collapsing. The amount of saline used to fill the implant can be adjusted to correct for differences in the size of a woman’s breasts.
The Serene implant is round, so rotation does not affect its appearance, whereas tear-drop shaped implants appear abnormal if they rotate. In addition, the Serene implant was designed to conform to the natural curve of the chest wall, with the edges low and closer to the ribs, and to have a shape that is youthful. The result is an augmented breast that looks and feels natural, without the risk of undetected silicone gel rupture.
How many women have had the implant? Is it safe?
A U.S. clinical trial began in February 2009 and included more than 500 women who had the Serene implant for primary breast augmentation or replacement of existing augmentation implants. The follow-up is over 10 years. Based on the safety profile and positive results, the FDA and Health Canada approved Serene implant in November 2014.
What will my breast incision be like with the implant?
Dr. Ringler is the only Grand Rapids plastic surgeon specializing in a surgical technique that offers women the option of breast enlargement without any visible breast scar; the transaxillary breast augmentation. This procedure utilizes a small incision in the armpit through which a saline-filled implant is inserted. The small scar is hidden in an inconspicuous place and is very hard to detect several months later. With this technique, there may be less swelling and bruising than in some other approaches, thus offering patients a quicker and less painful recovery.
This one-hour procedure may allow some patients to achieve a natural result with a minimal scar. For women who are interested in breast enhancement with no visible breast scar, this procedure may be an excellent option.
