Schedule a ConsultationKybella is the first FDA-approved injectable that helps reduce a fatty double chin – without surgery. Kybella is a prescription cosmetic injection treatment that destroys targeted fat cells. The active ingredient (synthetic deoxycholic acid) occurs naturally in the body, helping it absorb dietary fat.
When the synthetic version is injected into the fatty areas beneath your chin, the fat cells are destroyed and then swept away by the body, leaving you with a more youthful, sculpted neck profile.
Many men and women are bothered by excess fat accumulating beneath the chin. Submental fullness or a “double chin” can come about due to a genetic predisposition, from weight gain or as a natural result of the aging process. Regardless of the cause, a double chin will make you appear older or heavier than you actually are. Fortunately, there are now several different options, both surgical and non-surgical, for improving your profile, including Kybella.
At the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, we offer FDA approved Kybella® injections, as well as CoolSculpting Cool-Mini, for reducing submental fullness by destroying fat cells under the chin. Liposuction is the surgical option to extract larger quantities of excess fat from beneath the chin. In addition, at the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery we also offer Ultherapy and Exilis Ultra for non-surgically tightening and lifting the skin.
Good candidates for Kybella in Michigan include men and women of all ages who are bothered by extra fullness beneath the chin or who are embarrassed by their profile – they can get relief with Kybella. These injections are appropriate for:
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that functions that helps the body break down and absorb dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not necessary, once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
Our expert injectors, certified physician assistants and nurse practitioners are very familiar with administering Kybella and will discuss your treatment protocol based on your unique physical characteristics and goals. It is extremely important that your Kybella injections are performed correctly and the product injected in the right areas, in the correct quantity. Our registered nurses, NP-Ds and PAs are certified to inject Kybella, having undergone training specifically for this product.
A Kybella treatment is not difficult to experience and takes little time. You will have about 30 injections of the product, with a typical quantity of about three vials. Some patients will require several treatments, from between two to six, to achieve the look envisioned – every Kybella treatment is customized to match the current condition of the person.
A Kybella treatment involves the following steps:
You will need some patience to see the results of Kybella. The reduction of the fat beneath your chin will require many weeks or months. While you will be anxiously watching to see the fat disappear, when it does it is exceptionally rewarding.
The fat cells that have been shed by your body’s natural processes are never coming back. The treatment does not affect all fat cells, however, and if you gain a large amount of weight, the remaining fat cells can swell. Statistically, between 75 and 90 percent of patients continue to have a slimmer facial profile after five years.

Contact UsThe number of Kybella treatments required are dependent on the amount of submental fat and goals of the patient. The number of treatments required for you will be discussed during your personalized consultation. Most patients require 2-4 treatment sessions.
Kybella results are not the same as undergoing a surgical neck lift. During your consultation, our expert injectors will examine your face and discuss your goals with you to determine the best treatment plan to help you achieve your goals. If you do opt to have Kybella treatments, each treatment session is about 15 to 30 minutes long. Most patients require between two to four treatment sessions spaced one month apart, but for some patients, more sessions will be required. Results will become evident within about four weeks following the first session.
Typically, there is no downtime with Kybella, and patients resume their normal activities within a day. Some may experience light bruising or swelling.
