Ultherapy is an FDA-approved, non-surgical system to lift and restore facial tissues, including the brow, cheek, neck, décolletage, and to smooth lip lines. The Ultherapy treatment uses ultrasound energy to treat the lower structural layers of the skin to tighten the skin naturally, without the downtime of surgery.
Facial aging and Ultherapy treatments
Changes to your face occur gradually over time. Your facial skin and tissue will eventually lose its tone and elasticity. For many men and women who are not ready to undergo a facelift, Ultherapy produces significant improvements in skin quality, tightness, and firmness. Ultherapy is considered to be the “gold standard” in facial rejuvenation, offered at the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery in Grand Rapids.
Am I a candidate for Ultherapy skin tightening?
A good candidate for Ultherapy treatments is any man or woman who is living with skin that has begun to sag, appear “crepey,” or look and feel less firm as the result of aging. The areas that can be rejuvenated and firmed include:
- Lower brow line
- Sagging eyelids
- Loose neck skin
- Lines and wrinkles on décolletage
- Sagging skin beneath the neck
If you see the signs of aging skin, with mildly sagging skin, lines and wrinkles, and are in good general health, you are a likely candidate for Ultherapy. Your skin should not have extreme sun damage, or the excessive laxity associated with age – these problems will likely need to be resolved with a surgical procedure.

Safe and effective skin rejuvenation with Ultherapy
Ulthera® uses safe and effective ultrasound technology to see below the surface of the skin, down to the area of the soft tissue, where Dr. Ringler is then able to safely and precisely direct ultrasound waves. The selective heating effect of the ultrasound stimulates your body’s own collagen production and over several months, results in a face and brow that is visibly lifted. The treatment takes between 1-3 hours depending on number of areas treated, and there is no downtime after treatment.

Is Ultherapy a non-surgical facelift?
While results are not as dramatic as a surgical facelift, Ultherapy™ may help you delay a facelift for several years and give you a natural, beautiful, subtly lifted appearance so your skin appears to “fit better.” Ultherapy can be an effective treatment to extend the benefits of a surgical facelift.
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy an ultrasound treatment, FDA-approved in 2014, applied to counteract the effects of time and gravity on your face. It is a one to two-hour treatment that uses your body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually restore a more supple, firm, quality to your skin. Ultherapy produces a remarkable improvement in skin quality, as the treatment triggers the skin’s tissue to reproduce natural collagen at a higher rate – the perfect natural skin-firming product.
How does Ultherapy work?
As with other ultrasound procedures, a smooth applicator placed on your skin projects an image onto a screen that allows Dr. Ringler to plan where the energy should be directed. The same applicator is then used to deliver low levels of focused energy at just the right depth below the skin to achieve a positive effect, all while leaving the surface of your skin undisturbed.
What does Ultherapy feel like?
Comfort levels vary from person to person. While many people do not feel the need for any pain medication during the procedure, we currently recommend using Nitrox ( low dose nitrous oxide ) to help you remain comfortable throughout the treatment process.
Advanced techniques in Ultherapy utilize many more lines of energy, resulting in improved results and greater comfort in treatment. Many patients describe the sensation a momentary prickling or heat beneath the skin. This is the ultrasound energy being delivered to the tissue, which is how Ultherapy lifts and tightens the facial tissues.

Contact UsIs there any downtime?
You are able to return to your normal activities right away, and there are no special measures you need to take. Your skin may appear a bit flushed immediately after the treatment, but any redness should disappear in a matter of hours.
Is Ultherapy safe?
Ultrasound energy has been used in the field of medicine for over 50 years, and clinical trials have demonstrated the safety of this latest application. As with any medical procedure, the safety and outcome are highly dependent upon the experience and the credentials of the person providing the treatment. You are safe with this advanced treatment while under the care of Dr. Ringler and his highly-trained medical team.
Why choose Dr. Ringler for Ultherapy treatments?
Dr. Ringler has hosted workshops in advanced techniques in Ultherapy. Our Ultherapy treatments are provided by our certified physician assistants or RNs, all of whom have received advanced training in the latest Ultherapy techniques.
How often should I get Ultherapy treatments?
It is advised that you undergo an Ultherapy treatment every year or two to continue to maintain younger-looking, firmer skin. Always protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays with moisturizers with sunscreen. If you continue to undergo Ultherapy treatments in the years ahead, you can maintain firmer, healthier skin, as your body will continue to produce higher levels of collagen to produce a very natural skin-firming result. Be sure to ask about our Forever Young Program, which makes additional treatments even more affordable.
What kind of results can I expect?
With just one treatment, the regenerative process is initiated, but the full effect builds gradually over the course of two to three months. In an FDA clinical trial, nine out of ten patients had a noticeable, significant lift to the brow line. This resulted in reduced skin laxity on the eyelid, and a more open, youthful look to the eyes overall. Patients reported firmer, tighter, more tightly-fitting skin in the other areas of the face and neck as well.
Can Ultherapy achieve the same result as a facelift?
No, there is not a non-surgical way to produce the dramatic results of facial surgery at this time, but Ultherapy provides a great non-invasive approach for significant skin tightening and actual lifting.
What is the future of Ultherapy?
Dr. Ringler was the first plastic surgery office in Michigan able to offer the latest advancement in Ultherapy; a new transducer which enables us to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes. In addition, future applications may include a one-time treatment for eliminating hyperhidrosis, a condition that results in excessive underarm sweating.
Dr. Ringler has developed an advanced technique for improved results with Ultherapy and facial fillers, called the Facial UltraLift. For more details about UltraLift, contact us.
