Reducing a Double-Chin with Kybella

Posted on August 18, 2016 by Dr. Ringler

A common complaint of men and women of all ages is a double-chin or unwanted excess fat in the submental area. Fat beneath the chin can be aging and can make you look heavier than you actually are. What makes it more frustrating, is that even those who are in great shape otherwise, can be predisposed genetically to the unwanted double chin, which is typically not helped by diet or any type of exercise.  For others, weight gain and aging tend to make the problem of excess chin fat more noticeable.

Enter the latest FDA approved, non-surgical solution for fat reduction by Allergan, known as Kybella.  The goal of Kybella is to reduce the double chin and restore more balance…

Snapchatting Plastic Surgery

Posted on June 23, 2016 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock_416813071

There have been recent articles in ASAPS and in the media about plastic surgeons who regularly snapchat plastic surgery procedures, with their patients permission, and gain millions of viewers and sometimes new referrals.

As we become more entrenched with this type of plastic surgery voyeurism that started with with Extreme Makeover, then Nip/Tuck and Botched, there seems to be an endless appetite for people to want to look behind the scenes of plastic surgery procedures.

On the one hand, it is normal to want to know what to expect during a plastic surgery procedure. Consultations with a plastic surgeon and sites such as ASAPS and ASPS and RealSelf can give patients…

Plastic Surgery Trends 2015

Posted on March 3, 2016 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock_86814208-1Every year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) develops a list, based on surveys from board certified plastic surgeons, of the most requested plastic surgery trends of the year. The list includes those procedures that are surgical as well as non-surgical, in addition to some upcoming trends in plastic surgery.

In 2015 there was a big trend for women wanting butt augmentation with fat grafting, butt lifts and butt implants. These were the fastest growing procedures in the United States. The rate of those requesting butt lifts increased by 89% between 2000-2015. It seems likely that the trend for bigger bottoms stems from celebrities like Kim Kardashian, J.Lo and Nicki…

Reducing Puffy Eyes

Reducing Puffy Eyes

We’ve all been there- you wake up in the morning with puffy eyes that are swollen and unattractive. This can be caused by any number of factors; seasonal allergies, water retention from too much salt, a hangover, crying, or changes in the weather, just to name a few.

The good news is that there are some pretty simple home remedies that many people have found effective over the years that don’t cost much money and may be worth a try.

*Tea bags that have been soaked in warm water and then chilled in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes can be placed over the eyes to help reduce puffiness.

*Thick slices of…

Reduce a Double Chin with the CoolMini™

Posted on January 6, 2016 by Dr. Ringler

iStock_000010171567Medium-256x300Trying to reduce a double chin has now become more attainable with Zeltiq’s new CoolMini™ applicator. Despite our best efforts, stubborn fat often refuses to budge regardless of exercise or weight loss. Isolated pockets of stubborn fat can be a concern even to individuals who are very thin.

Using the same technology as CoolSculpting to freeze the fat, the small CoolMini™ applicator fits nicely in areas that are hard to treat with the larger CoolSculpting applicator. CoolMini™ is FDA cleared to treat the submental area (area under the chin), but off label uses include other small areas of fat that may be difficult to reach with the larger CoolSculpting applicator like…

The Gift of Plastic Surgery

Posted on December 2, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock_109969586We have seen a trend in the past few years of those who want to give others the gift of plastic surgery. According to the Academy of Facial and Reconstructive Surgery (ENT specialty) the increase in demand for plastic surgery from Thanksgiving to Christmas increases by about 25%.

There is no doubt the holidays are busy times for those seeking plastic surgery procedures for several reasons: everyone wants to look their best for their social functions over the holidays so there is increased demand for skin care, facials, SkinPen, Ultherapy and other non-invasive treatments for improving the skin that require little or no downtime.

Also, perhaps not coincidentally, we also…

Scarless Breast Augmentation Surgery

Posted on October 13, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

Breast Procedures Grand Rapids, MIMany women who consider breast augmentation worry about scarring or wonder if there is a “scarless” breast augmentation. Since all surgery involves cutting the skin, scars are an inevitable by product. When it comes to breast augmentation, many women who come to my practice are interested in having no scar whatsoever on their breasts. This is something we can accomplish.

Many years ago I learned the transaxillary approach to breast augmentation whereby a very small incision is made underneath the armpit, a fairly inconspicuous spot from an aesthetic standpoint, and the implant is inserted. This area also tends to heal very quickly and often after…

CoolSculpting vs. Vanquish

Posted on July 14, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

shutterstock2271385We often have patients ask what is the best non-surgical device we offer for fat reduction – CoolSculpting or Vanquish? Since we offer both CoolSculpting and Vanquish, let’s take the opportunity to compare the devices.

CoolSculpting is the older technology, and because we were the first plastic surgery office in Michigan to offer the treatment, we have seen many results over the past years, some favorable others less so. CoolSculpting is FDA cleared and uses “cryolipolisis” or fat freezing to target the fat cells. The CoolSculpting device works somewhat like a vacuum with paddles that suck the fat between the paddles. At first the device feels very…

Fat Grafting for the Body and Face

Posted on June 15, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

Fat GraftingFat grafting has become extremely popular for patients who wish to augment one area of the body and reduce another. The current popularity in buttock augmentation has many people seeking out this procedure. Typically, the fat is harvested through liposuction, the fat cells are then injected into another area of the body where more volume is desired. However, there are other areas of the body that can also benefit from fat grafting, including those who have lost volume in the face, or those who want some natural filler for breast augmentation, or even adding some sculpting to the shoulders, legs or stomach to create more definition.

The…

Vanquish FLEX – A New Method of Contouring Thighs

Posted on May 5, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

71187630_20-1We’re excited to introduce Vanquish FLEX, a new non-surgical method of contouring thighs through radiofrequency technology. Many of our patients work hard at keeping in great shape, but are troubled by small areas of fat that are hard to reduce through diet and exercise alone. Areas of fat around the thighs can be particularly difficult to address with our existing non-surgical fat reducing technology: CoolSculpting and Vanquish.

The issue in treating the thigh area successfully in the past has been the configuration of the devices. CoolSculpting uses cryolipolisis to freeze fat, but requires the area to be pulled into the treatment paddles:…
