KYBELLA – Reducing Double Chin – Grand Rapids
Many men and women are bothered by some extra fullness beneath the chin. This submental fullness or “double chin” can be caused from a genetic predisposition, weight gain or from the aging process. Regardless of the cause, a double chin can make you appear older or heavier than you actually are. Fortunately, there are now several different options, both surgical and non-surgical, for improving your profile.
At the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic, we offer FDA approved Kybella® injections, as well as CoolSculpting Cool-Mini, for reducing submental fullness by permanently destroying fat cells under the chin. Liposuction is the surgical option for permanently reducing the fat beneath the chin. In addition, at the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery we also offer Ultherapy and Exilis Ultra for non-surgically tightening and lifting the skin.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an FDA approved injectable that helps reduce a “double chin” or submental fullness without surgery. Kybella is a prescription cosmetic injection treatment that helps destroy fat cells to help improve your profile.
Who is a good candidate for Kybella?
-Men and women of all ages who are bothered by extra fullness underneath the chin or embarrassed by their profile can benefit from Kybella.
-Patients who are not candidates for or do not wish to have surgery.
-Those who have realistic expectations about what Kybella can and cannot accomplish.
How does Kybella work?
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
How many Kybella treatments are necessary to realize results?
The number of Kybella treatments required are dependent on amount of submental fat and goals of the patient. The number of treatments required for you will be discussed during your personalized consultation. Most patients require 2-4 treatment sessions.
What else should I know about Kybella?
Kybella results will not be the same as a surgical necklift. During your consultation, Dr. Ringler will examine your face and discuss your goals with you to determine the best treatment plan to help you achieve your goals. If you do opt to have Kybella treatments, each treatment session is about 15-30 minutes in length. Most patients require between 2-4 treatment sessions spaced one month apart, but sometimes more sessions are required. Results will become evident within about 4 weeks following the first session.
Dr. Ringler and our expert RN injectors are very familiar with administering Kybella and will discuss your treatment protocol based on your own unique physical characteristics and goals.
Typically there is no downtime with Kybella, and patients resume their normal activities within a day. Some patients experience light bruising or swelling.
