Considering Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Posted on February 16, 2015 by Dr. Ringler

Fractional ResurfacingFractional Laser Skin Resurfacing can be a confusing term. What is fractional laser skin resurfacing and why might it be something for you to consider for rejuvenating your skin?

Fractional laser resurfacing is recent laser technology, performed in the office that rejuvenates the skin and offers minimal recovery time with a low risk of complications. It is considered to be fractional because it is able to treat very specific areas of the skin while sparing others, resulting in  smoother, refreshed skin.

Some laser skin treatments are ablative and others, like our ICON IPL laser, are non-ablative. What is the difference? Lasers operate with various wavelengths for different…

Cellulaze-Grand Rapids

Posted on March 30, 2012 by Dr. Ringler

One of the main concerns of women in my plastic surgery practice has to do with cellulite. Even women who are at their ideal weight are bothered by this condition that results in lumps, bumps and dimpling of the thighs, hips or abdomen. The fact that 85% of women who are over 21 years of age have some form of cellulite isn’t much consolation. There isn’t much that women can do to prevent this condition, as it has much to do with heredity, genetics, weight loss or gain, and the thickness or elasticity of the skin.

To understand what causes cellulite to be visible we need to look at the…

Options for Treating the Neck and Chin – Grand Rapids

Posted on February 1, 2012 by Dr. Ringler

The neck and chin areas are both quick to show signs of facial aging; excess fat, jowls, and skin laxity are a few areas of concern. Many of my patients are surprised to learn that a full facelift or necklift is not always necessary to correct the problem.

Excess fat in the neck area can be helped with the use of SmartLipo Triplex laser liposuction. Using a very small cannula, in a very short, outpatient surgical procedure, the fat cells can be removed from the neck and under the chin for greatly improved contour. SmartLipo Triplex also offers the benefit of additional skin tightening, very minimal downtime for…

Methods to Reduce Neck Wrinkles Caused by Texting

Posted on August 3, 2011 by Dr. Ringler

Excessive lines on your neck may be caused by craning your neck to look at your phone, in what some are calling “Blackberry neck,” according to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

The constant downward gaze caused by smartphone use may be causing some individuals to experience more lines and creases on their neck than would appear naturally. Even if your face maintains its youthful volume, signs of aging on the neck can give you away.

Unfortunately, there’s not an app for that, but facial and neck treatments may help curb the effects of too much texting. One aesthetician in Manhattan developed the “Blackberry facial,” which included cleansing, peels,…

Winter months an ideal time for light or laser treatments

Posted on November 30, 2010 by Dr. Ringler

While many people spend more time indoors during the cool, darker winter months, this chilly time may also be an opportunity to visit a surgeon’s office. In a recent New York Times story, several dermatologists suggest that many patients should consider laser treatments in the winter months, because they will have lighter skin from the lessened sun exposure. With more layers of clothing, patients may also be able to cover up post-operative effects and heal more easily.

In the NY Times article, dermatologist Dr. Jeffrey Dover suggests that his patients book laser and light treatments following the Halloween holiday. Laser treatments, which are often used to remove skin spots or tattoos, are typically not performed on tan skin…

Cosmetic Surgery Market May Nearly Double By 2017

Posted on September 15, 2010 by Dr. Ringler

By 2017, the market for cosmetic surgery, aesthetic services, and laser treatments may exceed 3 billion dollars in revenue, according to medical research firm iData Research.

Fueled by the introduction of new botulinum toxin drugs, facial fillers, laser treatments and light based aesthetic treatments, the market could nearly double in size within a few years. Competition between pharmaceutical companies will intensify and drive growth further as new companies enter the market, say researchers.

Allergan, maker of Botox®, Juvederm and Latisse, will no longer have a monopoly on botulinum toxin, as Dysport® and the new PurTox® claim a greater share of the U.S. aesthetics market.

You can read more about the report, “Markets for Cosmetic Surgery, Facial Aesthetics…

Does Laser Liposuction Really Tighten the Skin?

Posted on September 8, 2010 by Dr. Ringler

New technologies in liposuction are being developed continually, creating more choices for patients and more effective tools for plastic surgeons. One of these recent developments is laser-assisted liposuction, a body slimming technique that liquefies fat prior to removal. The main benefits touted for the procedure include greater precision and reduced trauma to surrounding tissues.

Skin tightening is another benefit of the laser being mentioned more frequently as of late. Loose, sagging skin is a concern for liposuction patients, as simple fat removal can’t address poor skin elasticity in older patients. In order to achieve good results with liposuction, the skin must contract to a satisfactory degree after the procedure.

Makers of laser liposuction platforms claim that their systems can…
