Precision TX™- Hyperhidrosis

For many men and women excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, can be debilitating.  Social embarrassment, ruined clothing, and increased anxiety can all be exacerbated by overactive sweat glands. Beyond normal sweating, which our body uses to regulate temperature and keep us cool, for those with  hyperhidrosis, the sweat production is out of control.   Until recently, there wasn’t much that could be done for the 4 million people in the United States who suffer with this medical condition.  Botox offers some relief for those with hyperhidrosis, but it requires multiple injections and lasts for about 4-6 months. At that time, treatment needs to be repeated.  Anti-perspirants tend to offer limited relief, and the continued excessive sweating can be very hard to cope with both physically and emotionally.  Grand Rapids plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven Ringler, is happy to offer his patients a one-time solution for excessive sweating, Precision TX™.

How does Precision TX™ work?

Precision TX is a minimally-invasive, one-time procedure that utilizes a unique and focused delivery of laser energy to target and ablate the function of sweat glands within the axillae (underarms). The procedure is performed using a very small cannula (about the size of the tip of a pen) which is inserted under the skin.  This cannula has a proprietary SideLaze™ fiber inside of it, the design of which allows the laser energy and heat to be directed upward toward the undersurface of the skin, directly at the sweat glands.  The laser then destroys the sweat glands in the treatment area.

Who is a good candidate for the Precision TX treatment?

Anyone who suffers from excessive sweating that causes social embarrassment and ruins clothing may be a candidate for Precision TX.  A personalized consultation with Dr. Ringler will help you determine if Precision TX is right for you.

Is there any downtime with Precision TX?

Precision TX is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that requires only local anesthesia.  The procedure takes about an hour, and although there can be some discomfort and a little swelling that may last up to a week,  most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately.

How many Precision TX treatments are required to eliminate hyperhidrosis?

Because the sweat glands are destroyed by Precision TX, most patients will require only one treatment for long-lasting results. Typically, patients report about a 90% reduction in their underarm sweating after one treatment.

Is there any scarring with Precision TX?

The incisions that are made for Precision TX are very small and easily hidden in the skin folds in your underarms. For most people, they are nearly invisible.
