The worldwide charitable vision of Operation Smile is greatly enhanced by the efforts of doctors, nurses and volunteers from around the world, including the Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery’s, Dr. Steven Ringler and his wife, Andrea, who founded the Michigan Chapter of Operation Smile in 1997. Dr. Ringler volunteers his time annually as a Surgical Team Leader for Operation Smile and travels to countries around the world, providing free plastic surgery to children with facial deformities. In 2009, Dr. Ringler received the Dr. Stephen J. Pratt Award from Operation Smile for his voluntarism and dedication to helping children around the world on over 13 medical missions. Since 1982, Operation Smile has treated more than 200,000 children with cleft lip, cleft lip and palate and other facial deformities in 60 different countries.
October 6, 2015, Dr. Ringler leaves for a volunteer mission to Bolivia to provide surgery for children with facial deformities. Watch here for further details about the mission.
Here are a few of the children we were able to help out with surgery during our trip to the Dominican Republic. This little boy had a really nice result, much to his mother’s delight.
